LA NACRE
DE
SAINT-AUBIN-SUR-MER
Tastefully renovated fisherman's house, located on the Normandy coast, 100 m from the sea.
The Beach
Bordered by a pedestrian dike, the beach of Saint-Aubin-sur-mer has a first aid station (at the corner of rue Alsace-Lorraine and boulevard Leon Favreau on the beach) open every day during the tourist season.
A 125-space car park, the Mériel car park (rue Eugène Mériel) and the Square des Canadiens car park provide easy parking for access to the beach.
The pedestrian dike is home to many restaurants to meet your needs. The streets in the heart of the village are home to many merchants waiting for your visit!
THE BEACH, A LIVING AND LEISURE AREA:
The beach is a space for leisure, relaxation, a place for activities, a gateway to the sea. It is also a natural environment teeming with life. To remain "alive", the beach needs the seaweed. We call seaweed the natural debris torn from the seabed (seaweed, sea grass, driftwood, small crustaceans, etc.) and deposited on the beaches when the sea recedes. These natural deposits contribute to the natural balance of the beaches; they are not waste.
The sea line, an essential factor in the good health of the beach
Some high beach plant species depend on the strandline. Indeed, as it decomposes, the strandline provides them with the nutrients necessary for their survival and growth. These plant species develop a whole network of roots that trap the sand, which helps to fix it permanently. The sand then accumulates more easily and forms an embryonic dune. These so-called perennial species thus slow down erosion and are the starting point for the reconquest of the dune, or even its construction. The development of this particular vegetation is essential for the maintenance of the entire dune ecosystem, capable on its own of slowing down erosion.
Selectively cleaning beaches by only collecting waste from human activities helps protect the sea wrack, an essential link to ensure our beaches remain vibrant in the long term.
The Venelles of Saint Aubin sur Mer
Narrow streets typical of the architecture of Saint-Aubin-sur-Mer, they are pierced between the plots of the village, made up of enclosed gardens. These are part of the traditional fishermen's houses, the walls surrounding them allowing the fishing nets to be spread from one garden to another and thus allowing the wind to rush in to dry them better.
Sometimes straight, sometimes winding in an extravagant manner, turning into a covered passage, the alleys are an obligatory detour for anyone wishing to discover this village of yesteryear.
Original features of the town, they all lead directly to the sea.
Cap Romain Cliff
In the heart of the Côte de Nacre, on the coast of Calvados, the cliff of Cap Romain is located 15 km northwest of Caen. 6 to 7 meters high at most, it extends over approximately 500 m in length at the limit of the two beaches of Bernières-sur-Mer and Saint-Aubin-sur-mer.
The Cap Romain cliff has been classified as a national nature reserve since 1984.
The first houses approach a few meters from the edge of this low cliff, which overlooks a wide rocky foreshore.
Natural erosion has revealed in the limestones of the middle part of this cliff, and locally on the rocky foreshore, reefs of fossil sponges of Jurassic age, remarkably well preserved with their accompanying fauna.
